ignite MODE: Food Edition brings together food-based innovators and impactivistsLeave a Comment
New Sun Rising’s (NSR) ignite MODE is a quarterly series (proudly supported and funded by Neighborhood Allies!) of opportunities for budding social entrepreneurs and/or new non-profiteers to get hands-on, real time mentorship that can help shape their project and community. The goal of ignite MODE is to help project owners move from idea to impact by spending a day skill sharing and solution mapping with experts in fields that span social start-ups and nonprofits.
On Saturday, May 9, NSR hosted ignite MODE: Food Edition – Entrepreneurship & Impactivism – which was specifically designed for social innovators and impactivists in the food space in the Pittsburgh region. NSR partnered with Lead Lizarondo, founder of the Brazen Kitchen and 412 Food Rescue as well as a team of local changemakers and mentors for this special food edition. Our very own Talia Piazza joined Bridgeway Capital’s, Ed Troup and PNC Bank’s, Richy Newell to lead the “fundraising for impact” panel and talk to the participants about accessing grants and loans to support food based initiatives in our communities.
Eleven different food-based businesses or start-ups attended the event and had the opportunity to not only connect with peers, local mentors and experts but also get the support and incubation they need to take their idea to the next level.
Scott and Crew-I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the workshop you provided on Saturday. Coming in I was apprehensive about participating, however, after the first panel began to speak, I felt relieved and reassured that my coming was the appropriate time. The universe does answer. The day was very enjoyable. The panels were great. The mentors helpful. The set up was engaging. It was an all around refreshing day. Thank you again for including me. –Owner, Apoidea Apiary
About New Sun Rising
New Sun Rising has driven social project development in Pittsburgh for over ten years by offering mentoring programs, workshops, assistance with non-profit organizational development, grant applications, strategic networking, consideration of funding options, advocacy for projects, and logistical resources and support.
ignite MODE is designed for social enterprises, small businesses, or nonprofits that want to take the next steps. We work with food innovators in a wide range of stages in their projects — from ideation to launch to those already active but in need of support — such as identifying and sustaining funding, navigating accounting and legal hurdles, identifying earned revenue streams, growing a volunteer and/or donor base, and other components involved in getting the rolling pin moving.
