Neighborhood Allies, the local community support nonprofit, announced the plan to establish the three new centers, which provide employment services, financial education and access to income supports.

The three new centers are:

  • The Mon Valley Initiative, which was awarded $100,000 to add a financial coach and support an existing employment services program to its established programing in Homestead.
  • Oakland Planning and Development Corporation, also awarded $100,000, to support the Oakland-based JobLinks program.
  • Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania, which was awarded $75,000, to add employment services and financial coaching at North Side Common Ministries.

Neighborhood Allies is providing funding and technical assistance to launch the three centers based on an organizational model by the Center for Working Families developed by The Annie E. Casey Foundation.

According to Neighborhood Allies, the Local Initiatives Support Corporation has supported the opening of 75 Financial Opportunity Centers in more than 30 cities nationwide.

Along with LISC, other funding for the program here will come from the Hillman Foundation, the Buhl Foundation and the Roy A. Hunt Foundation.Read the full article here.
