The Funder Spotlight is on BNY Mellon Foundation of Southwestern PA!Leave a Comment
We are so very proud to call BNY Mellon Foundation of Southwestern Pennsylvania our ally, supporter and partner as we work together to improve the quality of life in Pittsburgh by addressing community issues and critical needs of our residents.
The BNY Mellon Foundation of Southwestern Pennsylvania recently made a $300,000 grant to support Neighborhood Allies’ Economic Opportunity program, which is focused on improving the lives of low-income residents, as well as our Asset Building Network, which helps struggling families in Pittsburgh by connecting them to the information, resources, tools and personalized assistance that will enable them to realize their dreams.

Over the years, contributions from the BNY Mellon Foundation of Southwestern Pennsylvania have supported the local Pittsburgh network of Financial Opportunity Centers (FOCs), which help low and moderate income families build assets and attain financial stability and upward mobility. The Foundation’s investment supported three FOCs across the city, which since have provided bundled services to nearly 2,000 individuals since 2015. Of those individuals, more than 1,000 have obtained employment and 550 have increased their net income.
Through our Asset Building Network (ABN), we promote the following initiatives that provide opportunities to families to stabilize their finances and acquire the assets needed to become financially secure:
- Financial Opportunity Centers (FOCs) with our national partner, LISC, bundling three core services together – employment services, access to benefits and financial coaching – to improve the financial bottom line for low- to moderate-income individuals. Staff teams work with clients to boost earnings, reduce expenses and build credit.
- Financial Empowerment Centers (FECs) with the Mayor’s Office of the City of Pittsburgh, offering professional, one-on-one financial counseling at social service agencies to enable residents to address their financial challenges and needs and plan for their futures.
Our work would not be possible without the tremendous support of funders like the BNY Mellon Foundation of Southwestern Pennsylvania. Thank you for your continued commitment and support of our mission to support the people, organizations and partnerships committed to creating and maintaining healthy neighborhoods!
