Get ready for the Pittsburgh Mobile Toolbox’s 3rd Season!Leave a Comment
Beginning in May 2019, in partnership with our allies at Grounded, the PGH Mobile Toolbox will begin its 3rd season of adding capacity, facilitation, and resources to community-based projects throughout the city! The toolbox is ready to roll to your neighborhood and provide tools for neighborhood cleanups, vacant lot beautification, and more!
As we look forward to the beginning of the toolbox’s 3rd season, we also celebrate the impact it has had over the past two years.
In its inaugural season, the PGH Mobile Toolbox served 24 projects in 26 communities and engaged over 200 volunteers on food, flower and orchard garden installation and maintenance, celebration event preparation and community clean-up projects. Then during its second season, the PGH Mobile Toolbox once again provided much needed tools and technical expertise at 37 workdays, engaged with 18 communities, coordinated over 500 volunteers, and helped 21 outdoor spaces become vibrant community gathering spots. In addition, the toolbox’s 2018 season also boasts a 95% booking rate, demonstrating the true need for a resource such as this in Pittsburgh and proving its popularity among residents in communities city-wide.
Implementation of the toolbox has helped to remove multiple barriers for residents attempting to start innovative community projects and beautify vacant land in neighborhoods including access to enough proper gardening tools and expetise surrounding gardening, soil, and other outdoor work. The toolbox has helped to pave the way for the repurposing of overgrown lots as spaces for community connection and greenery, as well as provide resources for the maintenance of these areas. This resource is perfect for volunteer groups and organizations who need landscaping tools for neighborhood cleanups, vacant lot beautification, or the implementation and maintenance of food gardens, green infrastructure, trails or general community gathering spaces.
