Please join us in celebrating the graduates of the 5th Real Estate Co-Powerment Series! The largest cohort to date, the group is made up of residents, community-based organization staff, community development corporation staff, and small business owners, among others! Omicelo Cares plans to hold a special VIP event on August 1st to recognize the graduates and to celebrate the advancement of their mission. Tickets and more information can be found here.

The Real Estate Co-Powerment Series is an education platform co-created by Neighborhood Allies and Omicelo Cares designed to demystify the real estate development process, explain its associated terminology and bring to light the productive role community members and organizations play in real estate and economic development in their own neighborhoods. An overarching goal of the series is to shrink the technical proficiency gap that exists between real estate developers and community leaders that are involved in local development projects. We hope to create long-term, working relationships between private developers, real estate experts, community based organizations, business owners and active community members so that residents can be involved in the development happening in their communities.

As the 5th Real Estate Co-Powerment Series comes to a close, we celebrate its impact in the lives of its participants. We very are intentional about delivering this resource directly to the people and organizations who are leading and participating in development projects in Pittsburgh neighborhoods.  We are very proud of the fact that, to date, participants have had a connection to a community-based organization, a community development corporation, or other local nonprofit. This means that more community members are able to access the necessary knowledge to be part of their neighborhood’s revitalization.

Please join us in congratulating the 2019 graduates:

Alexander Beasley, Anna Archer, Constance Mayer, Fred Smith, Gloria Potter, Jason White-Wiedow, Jullian Henry, Kellie Ware-Seabron, Kuwame Kinsel, Lisa Freeman, Meleak Potter, Mercedes Ruffin, Sakinah Davis, Saloam Knox, Shawn Knox, Tanya Cephas, William Bartlett, and Jason Flowers.

“You are your most valuable asset. Invest in yourself. Take this course.” – Shawn Knox

On the final day of the series, some participants shared personal testimonials about the impact of the course and what they could take away from it. Graduates said that they felt empowered with new knowledge that could better arm them to help their communities. They also enjoyed the ability to connect with others who have similar interests and find ways to collaborate on big ideas, new real estate projcts, and community development work. Graduate Shawn Knox sees the series as an investment in oneself – one that will pay off. Watch more participant testimonials here.
