On Thursday, October 12, Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council brought together community partners, artists and politicians for the release of GPAC’s latest Arts and Economic Prosperity report, Pointe Shoes to Pierogies: Impacts of the Arts in Allegheny County. Read the full report here.

During the event, GPAC presented and celebrated the impact the the arts have on people, organizations, and systems throughout Allegheny County.  According to the recently released report, the arts generate 32,211 full-time jobs and $641 million in household income in Allegheny County – the equivalent of 679,963,907 pierogies! Attendees of the event learned how Pittsburgh stacks up across the nation and what this research study reveals about jobs, household income, taxes, and cultural benefits for our region. Our very own, Presley Gillespie, presented on how art creates economic opportunity in our neighborhoods.

“We understand the critical importance art and culture play in uplifting the people and places within our neighborhoods. It’s the force behind meaningful community engagement, it deepens connections amongst residents and heightens economic activity along business corridors. Artists, creatives and cultural institutions are essential elements of a healthy neighborhood.”

-Presley Gillespie
