Your name/title: Chelsea Contino/PULSE Fellow/Strategic Communications and Program Outreach Coordinator

What you actually do at Neighborhood Allies: Thus far, I’ve been doing a lot of work to help plan the Healthy Neighborhoods Celebration. On any given day, this work could include setting up logistical components for the event, doing email outreach to potential sponsors and attendees, or updating social media with news about awardees and nominees. I’ve also started some to become more familiar with our website and newsletter platforms and delved deeper in Facebook Ad strategy. Eventually, I’ll be spending some more time on crafting a social media strategy as well as doing more program-specific publicity and outreach for our Love My Neighbor! Program and the All-In Pittsburgh Initiative.

How long at Neighborhood Allies? 3 weeks!

Favorite Project you’re looking forward to working on: Love My Neighbor! Grantee stories for a newsletter or the All-In Pittsburgh initiative.

Favorite thing to do when not at work: Watch netflix, hang out with my fiance, or play board games with other PULSE Fellows.

Favorite Restaurant/Lunch Spot: So far, I really like Onion Maiden. I haven’t tried that many places yet!

The neighborhood you live in/why you love it: I live in the South Hilltop, on the border of Allentown and Mt. Washington. I love the neighborhood because of its unique character. First off, I can walk to Grandview Park in a few minutes or about mile to the Mt. Washington Overlook and get some pretty awesome views. On the other hand, E. Warrington Avenue has some pretty great storefronts that include a ton of nonprofits doing great work as well as a medley of interesting businesses to check out. I love that Allentown has this rock/metal vibe – Black Forge Coffee, Onion Maiden, Skull Records, The Weeping Glass, Dark Roots Barber Shop….I love metal music, so it’s right up my alley.

The best thing about working at Neighborhood Allies is: The people and the important work getting done here.

Favorite athlete or musician/band: My favorite band is Black Veil Brides

Dream vacation: I want to visit Ireland someday.

Favorite quote: Right now, it’s “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”

People would be surprised to learn that you… 1) Are trying to learn to play the ukulele. I’ve never played a musical instrument before this! 2) Volunteered at a local humane society all 4 years of college and 3) Love musicals. A lot.
