Community Art Projects Bring the Hilltop Communities Together

On Tuesday, October 3rd, we unveiled two public art projects in the Hilltop, “A Hilltop Waddle” and “Lunchtime Lot”! Come on up to Allentown and see both of these projects for yourself!

  • James Simon designed and created over 40 unique penguins to be installed and displayed in spots across the Hilltop neighborhoods of Allentown, Beltzhoover and Knoxville. A Hilltop Waddle is part of the Temporary Public Art and Placemaking Program, an initiative of Neighborhood Allies and Office of Public Art. The Temporary Public Art and Placemaking Pilot Program is producing a series of six temporary works of public art in each of Neighborhood Allies’ target neighborhoods.

A special thanks goes to all of our allies on these projects: Artist James Simon, Jolie and Bobby Valentine, South Hilltop Men’s Group, Office of Public Art, GTECH, Hilltop Alliance who made this event and both of these projects a huge success!

“I think all of the partners, artists and residents involved are inspired by the way these projects are supporting each other in such a collaborative way. It’s not every day you get to see and experience the power of organizations and residents working alongside to achieve common goals.”

– Shad Henderson, Director of Community Partnerships and Investments
