JANE A. DOWNING
Jane A. Downing, Senior Program Officer, joined The Pittsburgh Foundation in January 1994. She is responsible for grantmaking in community and economic development with emphasis on upward mobility programs for entry level workers, affordable housing, and transportation and green infrastructure strategies.
From 1972-1993 Jane held positions of increasing responsibility in the City of Pittsburgh’s Department of City Planning, including Planning Director. Prior to coming to Pittsburgh, Jane served with the Peace Corps in Panama City, Panama as a community development worker in the national housing agency.
She currently serves on the Youth Policy Council of the Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board, the Allegheny County Homeless Advisory Board, and the board of Neighborhood Allies. She has served on the boards of more than three dozen community based non-profits in Pittsburgh, most related to affordable housing and community development, several national organizations including the Neighborhood Funders Group, the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials and her undergraduate and graduate schools.
Jane earned a bachelor’s degree in government from Bates College and a masters degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. She is an adjunct faculty in the Heinz College, Carnegie Mellon University.
